Menopause and Ayurveda

Menopause is a natural transition in a woman’s life, usually between 45–55 years, when the ovaries gradually reduce estrogen and progesterone production. This hormonal imbalance can cause physical, mental, and emotional symptoms.

Common Symptoms of Menopause & Hormonal Imbalance

  • Hot flashes, night sweats

  • Irregular or stopped periods

  • Mood swings, irritability, anxiety, depression

  • Vaginal dryness, low libido

  • Weight gain, especially around the abdomen

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Bone weakness (osteoporosis) and joint pain

  • Hair fall, dry skin

Ayurveda’s View on Menopause

In Ayurveda, menopause is seen as a natural stage of life, not a disease. It is influenced by Vata and Pitta imbalance with gradual decline of Shukra dhatu (reproductive tissue).

  • Vata aggravation → anxiety, dryness, joint pain, insomnia

  • Pitta aggravation → hot flashes, irritability, sweating

  • Kapha imbalance (in some women) → weight gain, sluggishness, water retention

4. Lifestyle Practices
